Our National Colors Fly at the E. L. Smith, Jr. Detachment in Rome.

flagpole

On November 10, 2012, 237 years after the founding of our beloved Corps, the Stars and Stripes were raised over the Marine Corps League E. L. Smith, Jr. Detachment 245 for the first time. The plaque on the pole is inscribed "To all veterans of Oneida County who have given their lives in the service of our great nation." Many members and dignitaies "fell out" for the first colors ceremony, including Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, Assemblyman Dave Townsend, and Mayor Joseph Fusco, Jr.

The flagpole effort was spearheaded by Ed Arcuri. Tom Arcuri, Mike Mills, and Kevin Underwood worked tirelessly on the project to ensure it was ready for the dedication ceremony on the Marine Corps Birthday. Thanks to the many members and sponsors who had a part in this project.
